AC Milan head coach Stefano Pioli believes that his team deserved more than a draw from their Coppa Italia semi-final first leg against Inter.

Speaking to Italian broadcaster SportMediaset after the match, the coach gave the view that the Rossoneri had been the better side and could have won and taken an advantage into the second leg of the tie.

Milan set out to press Inter from the beginning of the match, and especially in the first half they had a few moments where they successfully created good chances to score.

However, the Rossoneri largely weren’t on target with their efforts, while those shots that they did get on target were well-saved by Nerazzurri captain Samir Handanovic.

Meanwhile, Inter looked toothless at the other end as they have in recent matches, not creating any clear-cut chances despite a few positive moments, and so the tie remains finely balanced going into the second leg next month.

“I think Milan are better off because we played a good match,” he said. “The team deserved to win for their performance.”

“I’m satisfied with the performance,” he added, “Inter are very strong, but we can play for it.”
