Inter head coach Simone Inzaghi feels that his team’s recent drought in front of goal stands out because of the prolific form that they had been earlier in the season.

Speaking in a press conference after his team’s goalless draw against AC Milan in the Coppa Italia, as reported by FCInterNews, the coach suggested that the fact that the team’s inability to score is remarked upon is a reflection of their high standards.

Inter managed to keep a clean sheet despite the pressure that the Rossoneri put on them, particularly in the first half, but at the other end looked just as toothless as they had against Genoa on Friday if not more so.

The result is a decent one for the Nerazzurri, but it was also the fourth match in all competitions in which they’ve failed to find the back of the net.

This sequence would have seemed unthinkable just a couple months ago when the Nerazzurri’s free-scoring attack saw them score in virtually all of their matches.

“It makes news when we go for so many games without scoring, since we’ve all gotten used to it this season,” Inzaghi said, “but I’m calm because now we’ve got all our forwards available and I think we can get back to doing what we know we’re capable of soon.”

On choosing between the forwards at his disposal, he said that “I think they’ve all played a bit this season, now we have all our forwards available and at times I’ll choose the two most suitable for the various games.”

Looking ahead, the coach stated that “Now we have to go home and recover, then it will already be time to think about Salernitana.”

“This year we have all become accustomed to certain things, so seeing a team like ours not scoring for four games is newsworthy.”
