UEFA President Aleksander Ceferin has said that those attempting to launch a new iteration of the Super League are living in a parallel universe to everyone else, according to a report in the Italian media today.

Speaking during the Business of Football Conference, via FCInternews, the UEFA president reflected on the fact that a new version the Super League that was previously attempted in 2021 is being presented today in London.

Aleksander Ceferin points out that the previous attempt at launching the Super League came in the midst of the Coronavirus pandemic, and this new version comes just as Russia has launched a violent invasion of neighbouring Ukraine.

“First they launch a senseless idea in the midst of a pandemic, now we hear that they are launching another in the midst of a war. They live in a parallel world.”

The major criticism of the initial Super League launch was that the competition would be a closed shop where there was no real sporting consequence for losing.

It is said that this element has been removed from the new plans but the full details are not clear.
