Inter assistant coach Massimiliano Farris has said that the second leg against Liverpool can be a good springboard to end the season with, according to a report in the Italian broadcast media.

Speaking during an interview with Inter TV after the 5-0 victory over Salernitana on Friday night, via FCInternews, the assistant coach talked about the Champions League Round of 16 match against Liverpool that Inter must navigate next week.

“It’s going to be a great game. In the second half with Genoa the team was perhaps a bit too rushed to score and D’Ambrosio hit the crossbar.

“Tonight it was necessary to win, in Liverpool we are going to play knowing that we are starting from a disadvantage but that we have nothing to lose. It can be a springboard to finish the season in the best possible way.”

It was a major relief to everyone at Inter that they managed to take all three points against Salernitana and do it by scoring five goals. Massimiliano Farris feels that it was the evening that the team needed.

“This is the evening we needed after a difficult period, but where only the results did not prove us right. Speaking with the press we noticed how the numbers are in line with the last few games, only the result is different.

“We knew that Lautaro could give us this performance. They all go on him after the goal, he deserved it. He is a player who cares a lot for the Inter shirt, it is right to trust him. We wanted to confirm the team because no data told us of a team in decline.”

It was noted that there was a lot more movement from the midfielders tonight and Massimiliano Farris revealed why Inter chose to approach the game in that way.

“We had prepared the team against a formation that holds the high line with great enthusiasm despite being in a fight to stay up. It was essential that the team regain clarity in these games. Today the midfielders have taken over the keys of the match and everything becomes easier.”
