Inter could have been awarded a penalty late in the second half of yesterday evening’s Serie A win over Salernitana.

This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, who argue that the challenge by Salernitana midfielder Ivan Radovanovic on Inter’s Roberto Gagliardini in the box could have been given as a foul.

The result was already truly beyond doubt by the time of the incident between Radovanovic and Gagliardini, but the Nerazzurri could well have had the opportunity to score a sixth from spot.

The Salernitana midfielder did make contact with the calf of of his Inter counterpart, and whilst the contact was not necessarily clear and obvious as a penalty, it did unbalance the Inter man, and the Gazzetta suggests that there is real doubt on whether not awarding the penalty was the correct decision.

Meanwhile, the Gazzetta is also critical of the way in which match official Livio Marinelli decided to hand out yellow cards, particularly suggesting that the challenge by Inter defender Stefan de Vrij on Milan Djuric should not have resulted in a booking.
