Inter striker Lautaro Martinez has said that he is proud to wear the Inter shirt and score goals but the win for the team is more important, according to a report in the Italian broadcast media.

Speaking during an interview with Inter TV after the win over Salernitana, via FCInternews, the Argentine forward talked about his pride at having scored a hat-trick which also meant scoring his 50th Serie A goal.

“I didn’t know that but it is certainly important for those who look at the numbers. I try to give my all because Inter must win, this is the most important thing for me. The numbers are secondary.

“I’m proud of this shirt and to be represented by these fans who have been happy in this period. Now we have to recover and move forward in the Champions League, in the Italian Cup and in everything to continue growing as a team.”

That 5-0 victory takes Inter to the top of the table for the time being and Lautaro Martinez opened up about how important that was for the team.

“How important was it? So much because it was important to go back to winning, to play well as a team as we did today. For me it was important to go back to scoring and today I did it thanks to the help of my teammates. I thank them, the coach, his staff and everyone.”

Lautaro Martinez says that the goals mean a lot to him because that is what a striker lives for.

“The forwards live on goals. And when the attacker doesn’t score, the team suffers. This is our job: to be defenders first and then finish the game. Today the door opened, after the crossbar, I said to myself ‘once again it’s not the day’ but thanks to my teammates I went back to scoring, Edin scored two and we are really very happy.”

The Argentine forward also gave a message to the fans in which he thanked them for their support of the team during a difficult time.

“I thank them so much because they are always by our side. We have to fight together, last year we won the Scudetto and this year we have to try more.

“We are happy with what we are doing, we have had a tough period but now we have to go back to having the confidence we had up to a month and a half ago and go back to doing what we have done so far.”
