Inter striker Lautaro Martinez got back to his best with his hat-trick against Salernitana in Serie A yesterday evening.

This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, who suggest that the 24-year-old showed what he can do at his confident best for the first time in a long time with his display against the newly-promoted side.

Martinez has looked low on confidence and unsure of himself in many recent displays, with his listless displays and poor finishing the biggest culprit in a run which extended to more than seven hours without scoring in all competitions from the team.

However, the coach and the team continued to back the Argentine, and yesterday evening he gave a good indication of why this is.

After a tentative start, Martinez really took off with his first goal, and then raced to a hat-trick as he suddenly looked more assured with his movement and finishing.

Ahead of Tuesday’s Champions League semi-final second leg against Liverpool, and with the run-in of a tight Serie A title race on the horizon, Martinez’s “resurrection” hasn’t come a moment too soon for Inter.
