Inter Vice-President Javier Zanetti is very pleased to have seen his team get back to winning ways in Serie A with their 5-0 rout of Salernitana yesterday.

Speaking to Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia, the executive stressed the significance of the match in the team’s season and also expressed his happiness to see his compatriot Lautaro Martinez get back on the scoresheet with a hat-trick.

Inter had gone four matches without a win in Serie A heading into yesterday’s match, a stretch that took up all of February, and they had also been in the midst of a run of form in front of goal which saw them go seven hours without scoring across all competitions.

The team put all that behind them in emphatic fashion, while striker Martinez also put his own personal February to forget behind him by leading the charge with three well-taken goals.

Zanetti is aware of the great importance of the result, calling it a “Very important victory, I’m happy for Lautaro Martinez and for the whole team who put in a great performance to respond to recent matches where they didn’t get the result they wanted.”

“This showed that there’s still belief in the group, and there’s a very clear objective,” he went on, “to be front-runners in a very difficult league where a lot of good teams all want to win.”

“We’re where we want to be and I’m very happy with the team’s performance,” Zanetti said.

He was also glad to have seen several players inducted into the club’s hall of fame before the match, calling it “A very exciting evening before the match, I was very pleased to see my former teammates Snejider, Eto’o, Materazzi, and Pagliuca again. Their induction into the Hall of Fame is well deserved.”

“It’s always a great feeling when you hear your fans applaud you for what you’ve done playing for this shirt for so many years,” he added of the hall of fame.

“The Inter fans were thrilled to have seen these great champions greeted by a big crowd,” he said, “It was a beautiful evening emotionally.”
