January signing Robin Gosens could be handed his first start for Inter in the team’s massive Champions League round of sixteen second leg clash with Liverpool over the week.

This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, who report that the 27-year-old could be considered ready to play from the start against the Reds after his impressive display off the bench against Salernitana in Serie A.

Matteo Darmian started on the left against Salernitana yesterday evening after Ivan Perisic picked up a muscle injury just prior to the match, but Gosens came on during the second half.

The German had only made a token appearance during the closing minutes against AC Milan in the Coppa Italia, his first appearance since joining from Atalanta in January.

Against Salernitana, however, the wing-back was given more of a chance to show what he can do, turning in an impressive all-around performance which he capped off with an assist for the Nerazzurri’s fourth goal.

Should Perisic not be able to play against Liverpool due to injury, then coach Simone Inzaghi could decide to turn to Gosens knowing that he needs all the quality his team can muster in order to have any chance of overturning the 2-0 deficit from the first leg.
