Alexis Sanchez may not have appeared in Inter’s 5-0 win over Salernitana in Serie A because he was being kept fresh for Tuesday’s Champions League clash with Liverpool.

This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Corriere della Sera, who suggest that Nerazzurri coach Simone Inzaghi may be keeping the Chilean in his pocket as an option for the round of sixteen away leg.

Inzaghi appeared to get exactly what he wanted out of the players who he started against Salernitana, with Edin Dzeko and Lautaro Martinez proving that they can function effectively together up front and score goals.

Meanwhile, Joaquin Correa came on during the second half to help the Nerazzurri see out the match.

Sanchez was one player who was conspicuous in his absence given that the 33-year-old has played more often than not for the Nerazzurri in recent matches, but according to the Corriere della Sera this could well be because the coach wanted to rest him so he is at his best on Tuesday.
