Former AC Milan, Parma, and Palermo defender Cristian Zaccardo feels that Inter are the strongest team in Serie A on paper but that there is every chance that they can still lose out on the title.

Speaking to Italian news outlet TuttoMercatoWeb, the 40-year-old emphasized how at this stage of the season, everything will come down to how the matches can go any way regardless of form and quality.

Inter got out of their recent slump in form by beating Salernitana on Friday evening, and if they can continue to play the way that they had during November and December then they will feel that they are in control of the Scudetto race.

However, the Nerazzurri have also experienced moments of bad form during the campaign, and will be all too wary of the fact that bad finishing, good opposition goalkeeping, or occurrences like red cards or penalties could derail their title challenge.

All three of Inter, AC Milan, and Napoli are bunched together at the top, and Zaccardo feels that they all have a real chance even if it is the Nerazzurri who are the most impressive of the trio on paper.

“On paper, Inter,” he said of the favourites for the title. “But the games must be played, there are many factors that can come up.”

“Milan don’t have the Champions League, Ibra will return,” he explained. “Napoli have a top-quality team in terms of their starting eleven. It’s nice to see three teams fighting at the top.”
