Inter head coach Simone Inzaghi has never really lost faith in Edin Dzeko and Lautaro Martinez as his preferred starting strike partnership, and against Salernitana they repaid the coach’s trust.

This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, who highlight how the duo of Dzeko and Martinez took a big step towards proving themselves as the right attacking partnership for the Nerazzurri.

Martinez had been badly out of form for some time, whilst Dzeko was also not necessarily convincing despite chipping in with more goals than his strike partner.

This led to some calls to change up the attack, with the view being that the chemistry between the two main strikers was not working.

However, Inzaghi has always appeared to believe that his best possible attacking unit contains Dzeko and Martinez, and persisted with the duo even when they were in a slump of form.

In Friday’s win over Salernitana in Serie A, the pair were responsible for all five of Inter’s goals, and the nature of the win will have come as a vindication for the coach.
