Italian journalist Paolo Condo feels that Inter’s emphatic win over Salernitana on Friday was important for their place in the table but even moreso for their confidence.

Speaking to Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia, the journalist emphasized how the five goals scored by the team could be all-important for their morale and self-belief in the run-in of the season.

The Nerazzurri had not been in good form for much of February, taking only two points out of twelve in Serie A while also losing the first leg of their Champions League round of sixteen tie against Liverpool.

The team’s attacking form in particular had collapsed, but they did not look like a team misfiring in front of goal when they hit Salernitana for five goals on Friday evening at the San Siro.

Now, Simone Inzaghi’s team will feel that they’ve broken their duck somewhat, and that they can hope to return to the kind of form that saw them surge to the top of the table in November and December.

Condo called the result “Five very precious goals in terms of the table, and above all, morale. Inzaghi needed the goals from his strikers.”

He added that “They were lucky to have Salernitana in front of them, who needs to take three points from all their matches and therefore played an open game.”
