Legendary former Inter striker Alessandro Altobelli believes that having Edin Dzeko and Lautaro Martinez back amongst the goals will be vital for the Nerazzurri.

Speaking to Italian broadcaster RAI Radio, the former striker emphasized how having the two main attackers finding the back of the net will be key for his former side.

Inter went over seven hours in total without scoring across all competitions before a hat-trick by Martinez and a brace by Dzeko saw them cruise past Salernitana and put their goal drought well and truly behind them.

The pair remain the first-choice options up front in the view of coach Simone Inzaghi, and so getting them scoring is key for the Nerazzurri’s form across the run-in.

Even though goal contributions can come from midfield and from defenders especially on set pieces, it is necessary for the strikers to shoulder a significant portion of the goal-scoring burden.

Altobelli stated that “It was important to get Dzeko and Lautaro back scoring. Salernitana didn’t put up much resistance, but scoring goals is always difficult, and I hope Inter will be back to scoring in the most important matches.”
