Former Lazio and Torino goalkeeper Luca Marchegiani believes that Inter must do everything that they can to try and overturn the 2-0 first leg deficit in tomorrow’s Champions League clash with Liverpool.

Speaking to Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia, the former keeper emphasized that the Nerazzurri must approach the match feeling that a spectacular comeback is possible.

Inter have a mountain to climb if they are to progress to the quarter-finals given the quality of their opposition, but there are reasons for them to be confident as well.

The Nerazzurri’s performance in the first leg was encouraging, and they can look at the many recent dramatic comebacks in prominent Champions League knockout ties for inspiration.

There is no question that progression is unlikely against a team as good as Liverpool who have a 2-0 advantage to protect, but at the same time, there is no reason not to fight to try and achieve it.

“Inter must go and play with a desire to go for it,” Marchegiani said, “It’s clear, we all know it would be a sensational undertaking, but to grow further this team must mature and have the audacity to play their against these kinds of opponents.”

“They showed it in Madrid,” he went on, “their mentality must be that. You have to go to Anfield knowing that you can overturn the deficit.”
