Former Lazio, Juventus, and West Ham United striker Paolo Di Canio believes that Inter will have no excuses for a subpar performance against Liverpool tomorrow.

Speaking to Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia, Di Canio stressed that the Nerazzurri must rise to the occasion and show that they can give their best on the grandest stage.

Inter have endured some frustrating results in recent weeks, including a goalless draw away to Genoa, in which they looked sluggish and failed to really break down an organized and energized Griffone team.

In that match, the Nerazzurri could perhaps point to the excuse of a pitch in poor condition, whilst such matches can always prove to be unexpected stumbling blocks despite the theoretical advantage in quality.

The fixture away to Liverpool will not be such an occasion, as the Nerazzurri will have been prepared for months now to try to get a result against one of Europe’s elite at one of world football’s most prestigious stadiums.

“Inter must go there with self-belief and try to play in the opposition half of the pitch,” Di Canio said. “There will be no excuse like the pitch away to Genoa, they will virtually be playing on a pool table.”

“You have to consider the possibility that you can go out,” he went on. “You know that you’re playing a Champions League game at Anfield. Inter are a huge name, they have to fight for it.”
