Legendary former Inter defender Beppe Bergomi feels that while Friday’s 5-0 win over Salernitana was impressive, Inter must show consistency above all to prove that they are past their slump in form.

Speaking to Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia, Bergomi urged that the team must keep going as they did against Salernitana, as the emphatic win could still just be a one-off occurrence.

Inter endured their worst month of the season in February, failing to win any of their four Serie A matches whilst they were also disappointed to lose 2-0 to Liverpool in the Champions League.

It was a far cry from their form in November and December, but the 5-0 rout of Salernitana suggested that they could be back to their best.

However, the Nerazzurri have tougher opponents on the horizon, playing out the second leg of their Champions League round of sixteen tie against Liverpool before meeting the likes of Torino, Fiorentina, and Juventus.

“Inter gifted Salernitana a great chance right at the start, and after that the Granata left themselves too exposed,” he said.

“The result was Barella’s wonderful performance with assists each more beautiful than the last, and Dzeko’s and Lautaro’s goals,” he went on, “but we need to see more performances before we can say anything definitively.”
