Inter midfielder Marcelo Brozovic was substituted off during the second half of the Nerazzurri’s Champions League clash with Liverppol due to a strain to his right calf.

This according to Italian news outlet FCInterNews, who report that the issue that caused the 29-year-old to have to come off the pitch in the 75th minute has been diagnosed as a calf strain.

Brozovic was removed during the second half as part of a trio of changes, with Roberto Gagliardini taking his place in midfield.

It seemed apparent that the reason for the substitution was to do with injury or fatigue rather than a tactical switch, and this was confirmed by immediate post-match diagnoses.

It will remain to be seen in the coming days how serious the issue is, and whether the early substitution of the midfielder prevented the strain from becoming too serious, with a number of important matches just on the horizon.
