Inter midfielder Hakan Calhanoglu feels that he has made the right career move by joining Inter from AC Milan during the summer transfer window.

Speaking to UEFA TV ahead of the Nerazzurri’s Champions League clash with Liverpool this evening, the 27-year-old explained why the Nerazzurri are the right fit for him in terms of his playing style and ambitions.

Calhanoglu completed one of the most high-profile moves of the summer in Serie A when he left the Rossoneri to join their city rivals Inter on a free transfer.

The Turk arrived with the expectation that he would replace Christian Eriksen in midfield following the Dane’s health complications.

So far, things have worked out well for both the player and for the Nerazzurri, with his first season at Inter having seen him help the team to stay in the hunt for the Scudetto and reach the Champions League round of sixteen for the first time in a decade.

“Inter are a very good team,” he said, “the club talked to me about their goals and I understood that we wanted the same things.”

He went on that “It was a good transfer for me, I think I made the right decision. I like to fight and contribute to both the offensive and the defensive phases of the game.”

“In my career I’ve played as a left winger, and as a number ten, while in Inzaghi’s 3-5-2 system I play as an eight and I feel great,” he continued. “I feel strong mentally.”

The midfielder added that “My corners and my free kicks are very effective. It’s like tennis players who train to get a certain point. I practice free kicks, I work hard because they give us a great advantage.”
