Legendary former Parma, Juventus, and Real Madrid defender Fabio Cannavaro believes that Inter are capable of coming back against Liverpool in the Champions League this evening even though it will be a massive undertaking.
Speaking to Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport in an interview published in today’s print edition, the former defender noted that “miracle” comebacks have happened before in Europe’s top competition.
Inter must find a way to overturn a 2-0 first leg deficit in a hostile atmosphere at Anfield, against one of Europe’s elite side and the team to have won the Champions League in 2019.
This does not mean that a comeback is beyond the realm of possibility, but the Nerazzurri will not be heading into the match with illusions that they have anything other than a mountain to climb if they are to book a spot in the quarter-finals.
Cannavaro believes that the Nerazzurri have every reason to give it a go, stating that “They’ll try for it, because nothing is decided yet.”
“It will take a miracle, but it’s been done in the past, and we’ll see what happens in the future,” he continued. “Who can deny that there’s hope when you have a team like the Nerazzurri?”
“Then, later on, we’ll see what comes next,” he went on, “if the disappointment of being eliminated or the excitement at overturning a difficult situation can factor into the rest of the season.”
