Inter forward Alexis Sanchez had a rash moment to get himself sent off in yesterday’s Champions League clash with Liverpool, and it was indicative of what the team are missing at the highest level.

This according to today’s print edition of Turin-based newspaper Tuttosport, who argue that the Chilean’s red card showed that there is still naivety to this Nerazzurri side, of the type that can be punished by teams like Liverpool.

Inter had just gone ahead through a Lautaro Martinez screamer, which had reduced the deficit to just one goal for the tie and given the team a massive lift, when Sanchez went in with a late challenge on Liverpool midfielder Fabinho.

The tackle would have constituted a moment of madness at the best of times, but for a player who was already on a yellow card which could have arguably been a straight red to begin with, it was inexplicable.

The man advantage allowed the home side to regain full control of the match for what remained, showing their maturity and comfort level at this stage of European competition.

Inter can say that, over the two legs, they did not look out of place against a side who are one of the best on the continent and regulars in the latter stages of the Champions League.

However, they suffered from a few moments of naivety, and none moreso than the tackle from Sanchez which put the tie beyond them.
