Inter had a bittersweet night at Anfield yesterday as they made their fans proud with a 1-0 win but still went out of the Champions League on aggregate in their round of sixteen tie.

This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Corriere della Sera, who highlight the evening of mixed emotions for the Nerazzurri.

Inter enjoyed the applause of the 2500 or so travelling supporters who were at Anfield, who appreciated the team’s efforts to hand Liverpool their first home defeat in over a year.

This was not enough, however, to give the team or the fans the real happy ending that they wanted, as the result on the night still led to a 2-1 defeat on aggregate after the first leg loss at the San Siro.

The Nerazzurri will have felt their confidence grow from how they played against one of the best teams in Europe over the course of the tie, but in the end, it was not enough.
