Inter forward Lautaro Martinez was his team’s standout performer in yesterday evening’s 1-0 win over Liverpool in the Champions League according to Italian media.

The Argentine received a 7.5/10 grade for his performance in the player ratings for the match in today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, whilst Marcelo Brozovic and Milan Skriniar were just one below him.

Martinez had not been having the best evening up to his goal, looking unable to get the better of the Reds’ centre-backs as he had been in the first leg of the tie three weeks prior.

However, the Argentine showed all of his class with a long-range strike to give his team hope in the tie, needing just one more goal.

Unfortunately for Inter, that hope was all but extinguished when Alexis Sanchez got himself sent off for a rash second yellow, and the Gazzetta give the Chilean just a 4/10 score given the calamitous effects of this moment of madness.

After Martinez, the Gazzetta named Marcelo Brozovic and Milan Skriniar as the second best Inter players on the pitch, with the pair helping the team to preserve a clean sheet and put their stamp on the game, and each getting 7/10 scores.
