Inter defender Stefan de Vrij suffered an injury to his left calf during the Nerazzurri’s Champions League clash with Liverpool yesterday.

This is confirmed by the club in an announcement on their official site, where they state that this was the reason that the Dutchman was substituted off during halftime.

De Vrij started the round of sixteen second leg clash at Anfield and played the entire first half, but for the start of the second half he was taken off and replaced by Danilo D’Ambrosio.

The 30-year-old underwent further tests today with the Nerazzurri’s medical staff, which confirmed that he had suffered a lesion to the soleus muscle of his left calf.

It remains to be seen how serious the injury is or how long the defender will be out, with the club stating that further tests will be performed during the coming days to determine the scope of the injury.
