Former AC Milan defender Alessandro Costacurta has said that Inter will feel regret about their Champions League exit for a few weeks now, according to a report in the Italian broadcast media.

Speaking during an interview on TMW Radio, Alessandro Costacurta explained how Inter played very well in the two legs against Liverpool and will therefore regret the fact that they did not progress.

“Liverpool were unspoken because Inter played an excellent match. They have played two very good games and will feel some regret for a few weeks. Inter were playing against a great team and I think that stopping a team like Liverpool is fine but there is some regret.”

In terms of how the defeat in the Champions League will affect the Nerazzurri players, Alessandro Costacurta said that it depends on how they react to the elimination. They could feel disheartened and it may affect future performances.

“It depends on how the players will take this elimination. Sometimes you may think you have been wronged and if you are not mentally strong it makes you let your guard down, it can create something that slows them down and doesn’t make them so concentrated in the league.”

As for whether the quality of Liverpool was overstated in the run up to the two matches, Alessandro Costacurta suggested that the Premier League side are just not in a superb patch of form right now.

“I have a special admiration for this team. There have been so many extraordinary matches this season. They are not in the best period, we also saw it last weekend against West Ham. It is strange that for two games Liverpool’s quality wasn’t shown.”

Despite mentioning Juventus, he feels that the Scudetto race is between the three teams at the top.

“I think the championship is not over. Juve are very far away, but I think there are three teams that can win it. It’s so strange that I wouldn’t exclude those behind either.”
