Former Inter coach Alberto Zaccheroni has said that Inter are the favourites to win the Scudetto this season as no one else has the same quality as them, according to a report in the Italian media.

Speaking during an interview with Il Giornale, the former Inter and AC Milan coach showed that he had Inter down as favourites at the start of the season and he still sees them as the favourites now.

“Of course, Inter was and is the favourite for the final victory because of the quality of the squad that the Nerazzurri have, the others do not have it. In football, other things also count but I still see Simone Inzaghi’s team in pole position.”

Inter have had a bad patch of form lately when asked what the cause was, Alberto Zaccheroni pointed out the freedom that Simone Inzaghi has given the team but said that it can lead to complacency which caused the bad form.

“Inter dominated last season, strengthened and hired a coach who was good at keeping the same system but freeing the players of some blocks in the movements that there were last season.

“Inzaghi freed them mentally and the players liked it, especially the quality ones who are freer to unleash their creativity. When you stretch the leash, however, in the long run you lose something and there was something on a mental level that changed with the players who have loosened up a little, thinking they have already won the title.”

Alberto Zaccheroni thinks that there are some regrets for Inter about the way they were knocked out of the Champions League by Liverpool on Tuesday night.

“Surely there are some regrets for the Nerazzurri. I believe that at Anfield there were more criticisms of Liverpool than Inter deserve, but in the two games they did two very good performances. I have never seen Liverpool so slow and predictable in recent years, especially at home, for me they underestimated the game.”
