Legendary former Inter midfielder Esteban Cambiasso feels that even though Inter were not able win progress against Liverpool in the Champions League with their 1-0, it will still benefit them in Serie A.

Speaking to Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia, the treble-winner suggested that the confidence that the team takes from beating the Reds can improve their form domestically.

Ultimately, Inter were not able to do enough to eliminate Liverpool with an improbable comeback, losing 2-1 on aggregate.

However, the nature of their exit from Europe’s top competition, handing the Reds their first home defeat in over a year, gives the players reason to hold their heads high.

This could prove to be crucial in the run-in of the season domestically, with the squad needing to show the right mentality to get the better of an incredibly tight Scudetto race.

Cambiasso gave the view that “We’ll see how they respond over the coming weeks. If you’re capable of playing like this at Anfield, with this much character apart from the technical and tactical aspects, then it should give them a boost in Serie A and the Coppa Italia.”
