The substitutions that Simone Inzaghi in the Champions League match against Liverpool showed that his priority was the Scudetto, according to a report in the Italian print media today.

As has been suggested by Corriere dello Sport today, the fact that Simone Inzaghi chose to put Matias Vecino on the pitch rather than Edin Dzeko suggests that he did not fancy his team’s chances of the tie went to extra-time.

Inter were reduced to 10 men as soon as they pulled a goal back when Alexis Sanchez was shown his second yellow card of the game.

That meant that if Inter did manage to grab a second goal, they would have to play another 30 minutes with 10 men against a high-quality side. That could have resulted in a heavy defeat and hindered Inter’s fitness for the Torino match on Sunday night.

It seems that Simone Inzaghi had made his mind up that the Scudetto fight was more important.
