Former Inter defender Mauro Milanese has said that Inter’s overall performance in the Champions League was excellent this season, according to a report in the Italian media today.

Speaking during an interview with Tuttomercatoweb, The Triestina manager explained that the big matches that Inter played in the Champions League give the players great awareness.

“Inter have had a great performance in the Champions League, these matches give the players a great awareness.”

Inter lost 2-0 at home to Liverpool in the first leg of their Round of 16 tie but won 1-0 at Anfield on Tuesday night. It was not enough to see them progress to the next round.

The Nerazzurri are certainly still in the running for the Serie A title this season though and Mauro Milanese believes that it is just them and AC Milan who have what it takes.

“It will be a fight between Inter and Milan. For the Nerazzurri without Lukaku and Hakimi it would be a challenge. The Rossoneri have grown.”

The former Inter defender explained that he sees Napoli as being slightly behind the two Milan sides when it comes to delivering the Serie A title at the end of the season.

“They have done very well but they are the third wheel. For the Scudetto I see them as slightly behind, but Napoli are doing well.”
