The Mayor of Milan Beppe Sala has said that if Inter and AC Milan took their new stadium plans to another part of the city it would not buy them time, according to a report in the Italian media today.
As has been reported by FCInternews, Beppe Sala recently discussed the fact that Inter and AC Milan are growing tired of the delays that are involved with building a new stadium in the San Siro area of Milan.
“The clubs say: ‘What we need is a real executive project and to do it we need a lot of money and in a situation of uncertainty, we are not willing to invest so many resources.’
“The public debate does not lengthen the time, considering that there are already appeals to the TAR and the request for a referendum. Indeed, the public debate would automatically cancel the referendum.”
This is why there have been many reports of the two clubs choosing to build the new stadium in a totally different area of Milan where they may find more space or less opposition to their plans.
This would be a big development as the teams have played in San Siro for so long. The Mayor does not think it will save them time, using Sesto San Giovanni as an example of where they may go.
“The problem, therefore, is whether the teams will have the patience to wait a few more months or not. But going elsewhere, let’s take Sesto, they wouldn’t buy much time.”
