Italian Media Highlight Hakan Calhanoglu’s Importance To Inter With Marcelo Brozovic Out Injured Against Torino

Midfielder Hakan Calhanoglu will have a vital role to play for Inter with Marcelo Brozovic out injured during this evening’s Serie A clash with Torino.
This is highlighted in today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, who suggest that the Turk could play directly in place of Brozovic at the base of midfield.
Brozovic’s influence on the team has been enormous this season, with the 29-year-old controlling play in the heart of midfield, and having no real like-for-like backup within the squad.
The last time the Nerazzurri were without Brozovic they lost 2-0 to Sassuolo, and now they are set to be without him again after he picked up a muscle injury against Liverpool during the week.
Calhanoglu could be the player to directly take up the Croat’s responsibilities, as the former AC Milan midfielder does have the passing range and reading of the game to dictate the tempo from that deep role.
Inter coach Simone Inzaghi will face a dilemma coming up against an aggressive and organized Torino side without his key midfielder, and it is not clear how the coach will make up for the player’s absence as he has tried different solutions throughout the season.
It could be that Calhanoglu, a player who he had always wanted at Inter and whose qualities have been an important part of the coach implementing his ideas, could be turned to in this role.
