Fate Of Inter’s Serie A Title Challenge No Longer In Their Hands After Collapse In Form From February On, Italian Media Highlight

Inter are no longer in control of their own destinies in the Serie A title challenge even if they are to win every single match they have left to play.
This is noted in today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, who highlight how for the first time since December 12, the Nerazzurri’s fate is out of their hands for their Scudetto defense.
Towards the end of 2021, Inter overtook AC Milan and then Napoli in the standing, and went into the new year with a commanding lead at the top of the Serie A table.
The Nerazzurri’s advantage was mostly intact going into clashes with the Rossoneri and the Partenopei at the beginning of February, and their fate was still in their hands even after dropped points in those matches due to a game in hand against Bologna.
However, instead of recovering since then, the Nerazzurri’s wobble in form has looked like a full-blown collapse as they have won just once in four match, against bottom-of-the-table Salernitana.
Now, Inter are five points behind the Rossoneri, and even should they win their game in hand, would still have ground to make up.
For the first time since December 12, the Nerazzurri are relying on their rivals to make a mistake in the Scudetto race, although they can hope that there could be more surprises to come with the twists and turns this season has already provided.
