Inter defender Matteo Darmian feels that the team should have come into their Serie A clash with more of a sense of momentum than they did.
Speaking to InterTV after the 1-1 draw away to the Granata, the 32-year-old admitted that the Nerazzurri had not really approached the match with the right enthusiasm and morale, and that this played a role in their dropped points.
Inter looked tentative from kickoff against a Torino team who were well-organized and physical to unsettle the Nerazzurri and to try and impose their tactical style on proceedings.
In the end, Inter ensured that they didn’t leave the match empty-handed with a virtually last-gasp equalizer from substitute Alexis Sanchez.
However, the performance and result were a far cry from the composed display to beat Liverpool in the Champions League during the week, the first home defeat suffered in over a year by the Reds and an encouraging display against one of Europe’s elite.
“We knew we were in for a difficult match,” Darmian reflected, “Torino are a physical team and in the first half they were a little better than us.”
“Then we got back into the match,” he added. “We had more control of the pitch in the second half and we created a number of opportunities to equalize, maybe we could have won if we had scored earlier.”
“It’s a point where we wanted to take three, but we have to look ahead,” the defender stressed.
