The struggle to transition away from Romelu Lukaku in attack was on full display in Inter’s 1-1 draw with Torino in Serie A yesterday.

This according to today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, who argue that the Belgian was exactly what the Nerazzurri were missing as they misfired right up until a last gasp equalizer.

Inter strikers Lautaro Martinez and Edin Dzeko had enjoyed a mostly positive week going into yesterday evening’s match, with the former in particular putting a bad patch of form behind him with his hat-trick against Salernitana and goal against Liverpool.

However, neither looked effective against the Granata, as Martinez was marginalized out of the game by Granata defender Bremer and the latter missed two good headed chances.

The Corriere suggest that this was exactly the kind of difficult, scrappy match in which Lukaku’s quality would have proved decisive last campaign, with the current Chelsea striker the kind of player who could fashion a goal out of nothing against Torino’s stout defense.
