Atletico Madrid coach and former Inter and Lazio midfielder Diego Simeone would like to see his old side the Nerazzurri win the Scudetto for the second season in a row.

Speaking to Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia, the Argentine coach gave his hope that Inter can prevail in the Serie A title race over the run-in to the season.

Inter are locked in a tight and tense Serie A title race along with city rivals AC Milan, Napoli, and a Juventus team who are beginning to catch up to the trio in front.

Any of the three sides could plausibly go on and win it, but for Simeone, the best option would be the Nerazzurri, especially in view of the fact that they managed to do it last time around.

Inter are not likely to have it nearly as easy as they did last campaign, where they cruised to the Scudetto in the final weeks of the season, but if they could defend last season’s crown then they could really cement themselves at the top.

“The Scudetto race in Italy is very nice,” he said. “Juventus certainly won’t give up as always, and between Inter, Napoli, and Milan, the Nerazzurri winning the Scudetto would be beautiful after last year’s win.”
