Inter head coach Simone Inzaghi must adapt his tactics to have a Plan B for when midfielder Marcelo Brozovic is not available for selection.

This according to today’s print edition of Turin-based newspaper Tuttosport, who note that the Nerazzurri’s struggles without the Croat have seemed to come when they’ve tried to play the same style as usual in his absence.

Brozovic is plainly a key cog in the usual midfield setup deployed by Inzaghi, a trio at the heart of a 3-5-2 formation, and his importance has been underlined by the fact that the team have always looked a shadow of their best when he’s been missing.

The Nerazzurri needed extra time to beat Empoli in the Coppa Italia after an unconvincing performance, whilst his suspension against Sassuolo and injury against Torino led to a damaging loss and draw respectively.

The team have always tried to play with a midfield trio, and have turned to the likes of Nicolo Barella or Matias Vecino to directly replace the Croat when he’s been out, but this has never really worked.

For this reason, Tuttosport argue that the coach must devise a Plan B, a completely different style which is not reliant on Brozovic’s unique characteristics, but which gets the best out of other key midfielders Barella and Hakan Calhanoglu as well as the other central players in his squad.
