Former Inter and Napoli midfielder Salvatore Bagni believes that the Nerazzurri are still the favourites for the Serie A title despite looking some way from their best.

Speaking to Italian broadcaster Radio Marte, the former midfielder suggested that there are cracks appearing in this Inter team but that they are still the team with the most quality to go on and win the Scudetto.

Inter find themselves locked in a very close title race with the likes of AC Milan and Napoli, with Juventus having also caught up a lot of ground in recent weeks.

This is not what the situation looked like before the beginning of February, with the Nerazzurri having at one points had what looked like a fairly commanding position at the top of the Serie A table.

The recent form and the way that the table looks will give Inter second thoughts about whether they can go all the way in their Scudetto defense, though Bagni believes that they will have just about enough to do it.

“Even when they lose only one player to injury, Inter are struggling,” he said. “Just look at the match in the Coppa Italia against Empoli, and the defeat in championship against Sassuolo.”

“They’re no longer lucid, they do not have a sense of purpose,” he went on. “We hope they are really tired but we have seen how the teams change, I would wait to see if they recover.”

“For me they are always the favourites,” he added, “I don’t look at the schedule anymore.”
