Inter still have every intention of putting their faith in Ajax goalkeeper Andre Onana as their main goalkeeper starting from next season despite some shaky recent moments.

This according to today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, who report that the Nerazzurri are still fully committed to transitioning to the Cameroonian as their Number One from captain Samir Handanovic.

Onana has long been identified as the Nerazzurri’s preferred long-term successor to Handanovic in goal, and he has even reportedly completed a medical for the summer move.

However, the 25-year-old has not been in the most consistent form since returning from a one-year doping ban late last year, with nervy moments for Cameroon at the African Cup of Nations.

Yesterday evening, Onana’s Ajax team were eliminated from the Champions League by Benfica, who scored the one goal of the match from a set piece where the keeper looked to be at fault for not claiming the ball.

Moments of this nature have led to some speculation and apprehension around Onana’s suitability to immediately become the Nerazzurri’s first-choice keeper, but the club feel that he’s the right man.

Samir Handanovic’s own shaky form and high-profile errors have led the club to feel that it is the right time to move on from the 37-year-old, and they trust Onana to take over.
