Inter are attempting to keep Samir Handanovic at the club next season because incoming goalkeeper Andre Onana may not be number one straight away, according to a report in the Italian media today.

As has been reported by La Gazzetta dello Sport, the recent error made by Andre Onana in the Champions League against Benfica has called his abilities into question again.

The Cameroonian recently served a nine-month doping violation suspension which is a very valid reason as to why he is not performing at his best for Ajax right now.

Nonetheless, Inter would like to extend Samir Handanovic’s contract so that he can help mentor Andre Onana when he arrives in the summer.

There would not be a defined hierarchy, whoever is in the best form will be the number one goalkeeper.

The Slovenian goalkeeper’s contract will expire at the end of the current season so an agreement must be reached soon.
