Inter are set to earn more money from their participation in the Champions League this season than Juventus, according to a report in the Italian media today.

As has been reported by Calcio e Finanza, the fact that Juventus were eliminated in the Round of 16 last night by Villareal means that Inter will earn more than them from the tournament this season.

This is because if Juventus had gone through to the quarter finals, extra prize money and television money will have awaited them.

The reason Inter get more money is that they finished first in Serie A last season. €20 million of the participation money is distributed based on league position last season, so Inter get €8 million, AC Milan get €6 million, Atalanta €4 million and Juventus €2 million.

Both teams are receiving €5.7million from the market pool which relates to broadcast deals and how many games they played in the tournament.

Inter’s total comes to €13.7 million and Juventus’ comes to €7.7 million.
