Italian journalist Paolo Condo has said that the level in Serie A is the lowest it has been the last 10 years following Juventus’s Champions League exit last night, according to a report in the Italian broadcast media last night.

Speaking whilst on Sky Sport yesterday, via FCInter1908, Paolo Condo explained that this is a very serious moment for the Italian game.

Juventus’ elimination last night against Villareal in the Round of 16 along with Inter’s elimination against Liverpool means that there is no Italian team in the Champions League quarter-final again.

“We have to talk about the extinction of Italian teams, none in the quarter-finals like last year, Atalanta were there two years ago. The last to reach the semi-finals was Roma in 2018.”

He then touched upon Juventus’ drop in standard when you look at how far they used to get in the tournament and the calibre of team that was knocking them out.

“In seven years Juventus has gone from defeats in the final or being knocked out by Bayern Munich and Real Madrid, to these three eliminations against Lyon, Porto and Villarreal.”

Paolo Condo then said that Italian football is really hanging on Roberto Mancini and what he does with the Italian national team because the standard in Serie A is the lowest in a decade.

“Italian football is experiencing a dramatic moment, it is really hanging on Mancini. The level of Serie A this year is the lowest in the last 10 years, and it is normal after losing the players we have lost.”
