Inter defender Danilo D’Ambrosio feels that despite the team’s dropped points against Fiorentina earlier this evening, they could have gotten more based on their performance.

Speaking to Italian broadcaster DAZN after the match, the 33-year-old emphasized that the team put pressure on La Viola’s goal and could have taken three points had they been more clinical in their approach.

Inter saw their mediocre run of form extended with a 1-1 draw against Fiorentina at San Siro, with the visitors going ahead at the start of the second half through Lucas Torreira before Denzel Dumfries scored an equalizer minutes later.

After Dumfries’s goal, the Nerazzurri started to push for a winner, but neither Lautaro Martinez and Edin Dzeko, nor Alexis Sanchez and Joaquin Correa could find the cutting edge necessary to find a way through.

The result was a damaging one in the context of Inter’s title pursuit, with Napoli having already beaten Udinese earlier today and AC Milan having the opportunity to extend their lead at the top against Cagliari.

Of the performance, D’Ambrosio said that “A pinch of extra determination is missing, because you win matches when you score and don’t concede.”

“I can’t complain about the team’s commitment because we always give everything,” he went on, “both players who come on as substitutes and those who play from the start.”

“But with a bit more cynicism you bring home the three vital points in matches like today’s,” he went on.

“Regardless of what the other teams do, we always aim for victory,” the defender said, “today we had our chances but we were unable to convert them, even after a good second half.”

Going on of the Nerazzurri’s slump in form, D’Ambrosio said that “When you can’t win people ask a thousand questions and give a thousand answers.”

“We know how we train, but I must reiterate, you win matches with a bit of cynicism,” he said.
