Inter are looking to sign an experienced and low-cost striker with Alexis Sanchez on the way out, and Manchester United’s Edinson Cavani and Napoli’s Dries Mertens are two of their main targets.

This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, who report that the duo are two of the main names on the Nerazzurri’s list of more experienced attacking targets for the summer transfer window.

Sanchez is expected to be on his way out, with the Gazzetta reporting that there are clubs in Spain interested in him, and in addition to a younger player to build the attack around Inter are targeting a more experienced profile.

The Nerazzurri are looking for a similar type of signing to Edin Dzeko last summer, an experienced player who can arrive without a transfer fee involved.

Atletico Madrid’s Luis Suarez has been linked but according to the Gazzetta there is no confirmation of any interest from Inter, whereas they report that the likes of Cavani and Mertens are both serious targets.

Both of the pair are currently far from agreeing new deals with their current clubs and are likely to be available on free transfers during the summer transfer window.
