Inter’s hopes and dreams of retaining the Serie A title lay in tatters after another draw, this time 1-1 at home against Fiorentina at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza.

The Nerazzurri started the game on the backfoot as Fiorentina were pressing high and intensely. This continued in the second half where the Viola took the lead via Lucas Torreira.

Inter quickly equalized via Denzel Dumfries but were unable to get the winner and drew the game making it 2 wins in the last 9 Serie A matches.

Samir Handanovic – 5.5: Parried the long-distance shots in dangerous areas. The distribution was slow and poor. The double save at the end was the saving grace.

Danilo D’Ambrosio – 6: Danilo did what Danilo does. Kept it simple with very low risk passes. Had a couple of runs forward but it did not lead to any major chances.

Milan Skriniar – 6.5: One uncharacteristic poor pass but he did very well in the central role. Blocked numerous shots from distance and led the line effectively.

Alessandro Bastoni – 6.5: Gonzalez’ pace troubled him a bit. The long-range passing and the marauding runs were not from the top drawer. Needs a confidence boost.

Denzel Dumfries – 7: Perhaps the only Inter player that had some luck with the ball in Fiorentina’s half. Deserved the goal and much more for his efforts tonight.

Nicolo Barella – 5.5: Not Nico’s best game but he gave it his all. Kept the ball and his positioning very well however his creative spark was missing throughout.

Hakan Calhanoglu – 5.5: New role for Hakan as a regista. Took 10 mins to get going but his positioning was spot on from the start. Set pieces were not the usual level.

Arturo Vidal – 5.5: Looked out of breath early in the game. Still kept his composure and won some 50-50’s. On another day he could have finished that chance.

Ivan Perisic – 6: Ivan did not have any luck especially in the first half. Plenty of poor first time passes. Faded out of the game after a brilliant assist for Denzel.

Edin Dzeko – 5.5: The only shot on target for Inter in the first half came from his desperate efforts. Heavily marked and could not reach the end of any crosses.

Lautaro Martinez – 5: Played a lot deeper than usual tonight but his passing was poor in important moments. Does not look confident on the ball under pressure.

Joaquin Correa – 5.5: Hopefully someday he will come on when Inter are leading a game. Managed to create something out of nothing but Biraghi deflected it.

Alexis Sanchez – 6.5: Another impact performance off the bench for Alexis. With a little bit of luck, he would have had another late goal. Needs to start next week.

Federico Dimarco – N/A: Brought on to protect Bastoni for next weekend’s game. Did not have much to do apart from hit a few unsuccessful long balls to Gosens.

Robin Gosens – N/A: Just like Dimarco, Robin was brought on too late to have any impact considering the situation of the game. Couple of good crosses tonight.

Felipe Caicedo – N/A: Simone Inzaghi’s kitchen sink moment. Brought on in injury time more in hope than to have an impact tactically. If only he were a midfielder.

Simone Inzaghi – 4.5 : The first half was poor in attack. The start of the second half was dented very quickly by the opponents. Too scared to make decisive subs.

Daniele Chiffi – 5: Good use of VAR. Refused to give soft fouls for either team in the first half. Frustrating as he did the opposite in the second half. Inconsistent.

Inter – 5: This result felt like the last straw in the chase for the second star. Inter were too scared and nervous to create chances or finish them. Poor.
