Former AC Milan midfielder Massimo Ambrosini believes that the Serie A title is as open as it’s ever been between the three sides at the top of the table.

Speaking to Italian broadcaster DAZN, the former midfielder suggested that the three teams at the top all have a real chance while Juventus likely are still too far behind, whilst he also described Inter’s recent decline in form as inexplicable.

Inter are six points behind AC Milan and three behind Napoli, with a game in hand on both, and the sense remains that whichever team goes on to lift the Scudetto will not do so by a margin of more than a couple points.

The pressure will be on all three teams at the top over their run-ins, with every point dropped potentially decisive, while none of the trio have shown the kind of form that would be convincing enough to go clear of their rivals.

“The decline of the Nerazzurri has been unexpected and it’s dragged on a while,” Ambrosini said. “Milan are in a good patch of form both mentally and technically. Napoli deserve to be considered contenders for their quality and courage.”

“I don’t think Juventus can come back,” he went on, “they are too many points behind, but their progress in the league is worth pointing out.”

He predicted that “In the long run, the top three all have everything to play for.”
