Inter-owned goalkeeper Filip Stankovic is hoping that he can one day return to play for the Nerazzurri as he grows in the senior game.

Speaking to Italian news outlet Calciomercato.com, the 20-year-old spoke about his ambitions, his loan spell with Volendam, and the influence of his father, legendary former Inter midfielder Dejan Stankovic.

Stankovic has been on loan at Eerste Divisie side Volendam this season after shining with the Primavera team last campaign.

The Dutch club proved to be a valuable loan destination for young Nerazzurri striker Samuele Mulattieri last campaign, and this time around Stankovic and fellow Inter youth product Gaetano Oristanio are helping them to a push for promotion.

The 20-year-old is not getting too far ahead of himself and focusing on his current task, but he would like to one day play for the club where his father won the European treble a little over a decade ago.

On thinking about the future, he said that “I’m too busy earning promotion with Volendam to think about next season.”

And to be honest, I’m fine here,” he went on, “I hope to make it to the Eredivisie and play here again next season, to be able to compete against big sides like Ajax, PSV, Feyenoord and other big teams.”

He reflected that “It would be a further step in my growth as a professional.”

“Obviously I’d like to one day return to Inter,” he did however admit.

Asked about who is idol was as a goalkeeper, Stankovic named another treble-winner and former teammate of his dead, responding “Always and only Julio Cesar.”

I was eight when Inter won the treble with him in goal and I was enchanted with his saves,” he recalled. “When I saw him I said to myself, I want to become like this, I was crazy about him and he’s always been very nice to me.”

“He has also given me his gloves,” Stankovic continued, “I wore them even though they were oversized for a child’s hands, but it gave me so much joy having them on.”

He went on that “I remember going to train wearing them, maybe I didn’t understand their inherent value. Now they are home safe, well-preserved. I don’t touch them anymore.”

Of advice from the Brazilian, Stankovic spoke about penalty saves, stating that “He told me to look for the shooter’s first glance because that’s where he will almost certainly kick it.”

“Now he communicates with me on Instagram,” he added, “he always compliments me on results.”

He also spoke about his teammate at Volendam Oristanio, stating that “He is growing a lot, He’s never lacked talent.”

“He can change a game in two minutes and now he’s putting more rhythm in his legs,” he said of the Nerazzurri-owned midfielder. “This experience is doing him good.”
