Former AC Milan, Fiorentina, and Napoli goalkeeper Giovanni Galli feels that it would be premature to say that the Rossoneri are title favourites and that Inter are still very much in the race.
Speaking to Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport in an interview published in today’s print edition, the 63-year-old was cautious about declaring Milan the favourites for the title and suggested that the race remains even.
The Rossoneri are outright leaders at the top of the Serie A table, as even if Inter are to win their game in hand they will still be three points behind their city rivals.
With Milan’s fate now entirely in their own hands, it could be the case that they are in the driver’s seat for the Serie A title despite the close pursuit of the Nerazzurri and the Partenopei.
However, Galli does not feel that it is obvious that the Rossoneri can keep their advantage until the very end, and feels that the two teams chasing them are still in with a good chance.
Of the Rossoneri’s Scudetto hopes, he said that “It’s possible and certainly especially since the weekend. But it’s still to early to say that Milan are favourites.”
“Maybe I don’t want to jinx them, I love them and I don’t say it, and also a little because I’m being realistic,” he went on, “anything can still happen. Inter are not out of it, Napoli are in it as well.”
