Inter midfielder Matias Vecino has withdrawn from the Uruguayan national team’s squad for their World Cup qualifiers during the international break after testing positive for COVID-19.

This according to to Uruguayan news outlet Ovacion, who report that the 30-year-old has tested positive and will not be included in the squad.

Vecino had been included in the Nerazzurri’s squad to face Peru and Chile in World Cup qualifiers, but he has had to withdraw after the positive tests for the virus.

The Uruguayan follows his teammate Lautaro Martinez, who had also tested positive and withdrew from his national team’s squad, Argentina, during the break, and could return to be with Inter’s squad when he is able to.

It remains to be seen if Vecino has shown any symptoms, and when he will be able to return to training, though he will have to follow the mandatory period of self-isolation for one week presumably.
