Inter’s Turkish midfielder Hakan Calhanoglu will start for his country tonight as they take on Portugal in a World Cup playoff, according to a report in the Italian media today.

As has been reported by FCInternews, the Inter midfielder is arguably the most important player in the Turkish national team right now and he will be tasked with leading his team past a highly talented Portugal team.

The winner of this match will face the winner of Italy’s game against North Macedonia which also takes place tonight. That game will be featuring Inter duo Alessandro Bastoni and Nicolo Barella.

Should Turkey and Italy face each other in the playoff final for a place at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, Hakan Calhanoglu is likely to be up against a lot of his former teammates having joined Inter from AC Milan in the summer.

The matches kick off at 20:45 European time this evening.
