Inter defender Denzel Dumfries has said that Maicon’s is an example that he follows now that he plays for Inter, according to a report in the Dutch print media today.

Speaking during an interview with Dutch magazine ELF Voetbal, Denzel Dumfries talked about how Inter has had many very successful right-backs over the years.

He then picked out former Brazilian defender Maicon as someone that he tries to model himself on when he is playing for Inter.

Who is my example in that position? Several great right-backs have played at Inter. The first one that comes to mind is Maicon. He’s definitely an example for me. I hope to get to the level of him.”

Denzel Dumfries joined Inter in the summer but it was not until the very end of the transfer window. That means it took him a little while to settle in and find his feet before he began getting picked to start regularly.

They were fun months, but intense. It was really all new for me. From the beginning I tried to understand as soon as possible how this great club works and to appreciate all the positive aspects.

“I talked to the staff, I know my teammates and above all, I listen very well. I listen and learn.”

He picked out three Inter players that helped him settle into the city and the club, which are Ivan Perisic, Stefan de Vrij, and Hakan Calhanoglu. Both Stefan de Vrij and Denzel Dumfries are Dutch.

I also learn a lot from teammates like Hakan Calhanoglu and Ivan Perisic, but Stefan de Vrij was decisive. He helped me, taught me all about the club and guided me around the city. It’s nice to have someone who speaks the same language. We both come from Rotterdam of course.”
